Fungal nail infection

Fungal nails occur when a fungal infection affects the toenail, causing it to become discoloured, thickened, brittle or distorted. The infection is usually caused by fungi that thrive in warm, damp environments, such as sweaty shoes or communal areas. It can be stubborn and, if left untreated, may cause discomfort or further nail damage.

Not every thick or discoloured nail is caused by fungus. At Supafoot, we can carry out a fungal nail test to help confirm whether a fungal infection is present. This can be particularly useful if you are considering oral antifungal medication through your GP, as the test results can help support the diagnosis.
